Computer Science / The benefit of social media in research Niklas Lavesson
The semantic web and the social media provide a platform for storing structured digital information and sharing data between interested parties across the Internet. From a researcher's point of view, this development presents opportunities such as a wealth of information that can be explored to gain knowledge, collaborative tools for supporting international research projects, and new venues for disseminating or discussing the state-of-the-art. The new platform also brings challenges in the form of ethical issues, the need for adaptation of laws and regulations, and the problem of how to verify the validity of linked open data.If you have any question contact Niklas Lavesson on e-mail: niklas.lavesson@bth.se

Computer Science / Relationship-Oriented Social-Centric Future Internet Design (2010-04-28)
Abstract:Online Social Networks (OSNs) such as Facebook are growing rapidly. On the one hand, OSNs are invaluable in supporting communication for our Internet-based community. On the other hand, the weakness of the design of OSNs could make it lose its value. This talk will address how to leverage OSN infrastructure to solve security problems and how to protect the value of OSNs such that we might not introduce new security problems. Professor Wu will discuss the rationale and design principles behind Davis Social Links (DSL), a FIND (Future INternet Design) and GENI (Globel Environment for Network Innovation) project sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Under the consideration of re-designing the Internet, professor Wu will argue that network-layer unique identifiers and global connectivity by default, both being the fundamental design principles for our current Internet, might be both unnecessary and harmful.
